Understanding Your Audiences
Define the audiences that matter most right now
Audience segments are groups of your readers that exhibit particular characteristics. For example, they might be defined by location (e.g. local readers), device (e.g. desktop, mobile, or tablet), or referral source (e.g. social media, newsletters), just to name a few.
In Metrics for News, set up the audiences that matter the most to your newsroom right now so you'll have a dashboard of insights at the ready for analysis.
Please note:
- Any segment you define within your primary analytics source can be tracked in Metrics for News as an audience.
- See an overview of your audiences, as well as a detailed dashboard for each individual segment, in the audiences dashboard.
- Each audience is measured by a unique engagement score, allowing you to see how the readers in that segment engage with your stories.
To set up a new audience:
- Set up the segment in your analytics source or platform.
- In Metrics for News, go to Settings > under Analysis, select Audience.
- Click "Add new audience."
- Fill out the information in the form and select the segment.
- The information provided in the form appears throughout the dashboards and will help your team understand why this metric matters.
- Click "Save audience."
- An engagement score is automatically created for the audience. To adjust the score components, go to Settings > under Analysis, select Engagement scores > find the engagement score > make adjustments in the table.
- To view the audience, go the main menu at the top of the page > select More dashboards > Audiences. Here you will see an overview for each audience.
- Select an individual audience to view a detailed dashboard for that segment.
