How to import your staff members into Metrics for News to create author dashboards
Metrics for News can track your authors, your author types (i.e. staff, freelance, etc.), and your author teams (i.e. Business, Sports, etc.).
To import your authors, we will need a spreadsheet of all the authors you would like to track. If it would be significantly difficult to create a list, email team@metricsfornews.com to work on setting up automated author importing.
To create your author spreadsheet:
- Log into your Google Drive account in another tab.*
- Click this link to copy the spreadsheet template into your Drive. Rename the spreadsheet to include your newsroom's name.
- In each row, enter the following information:
- first_name: the first name of the author as it appears on your site.
- last_name: the last name of the author as it appears on your site. This, combined with first_name, will be used to identify authors.
- full_byline: the full name of the author as it appears on your site. This will be used to identify authors if first_name and last_name don't find any results.
- author_type: the author type, which will be associated with a level of access to Metrics for News. (i.e. staff, freelance, editor, etc.)
- team: the team that the author is on. (i.e. Business, Sports, etc.). If you would like to add multiple teams to one author, list those teams in the same cell separated by a pipe ("|", located above the forward slash on the keyboard).
- Change the sharing settings to be "Anyone with the link can edit". See Google Drive Help for more information.
- Send the completed spreadsheet link to team@metricsfornews.com and we'll take it from there.
*If you do not have access to a Google Drive account, you can download the spreadsheet and open it in Microsoft Excel or the spreadsheet software of your choice.
