GA4 Testing Guide

Let's check the migration is working smoothly for your GA4 account and Metrics for News

Reviewing Instructions

These instructions will guide you through checking whether GA4 data in Metrics for News matches the data in the GA4 interface. Below are steps to show how you can bring up MFN and GA4 in different browser tabs and compare story analytics.

Before continuing, please complete the GA4 Migration Guide to confirm your Metrics for News account is configured correctly.

1. Login to MFN

Login to your Metrics for News account by visiting: https://app.metricsfornews.com and using your credentials.

2. Login to Google Analytics

Second, you will need to login into your Google Analytics in a separated tab. Here are some detailed steps on how to access your account and select the GA4 property on Google Analytics.

 3. Find stories to compare data

Once you have both tabs opened and logged in, find stories in MFN and GA4 to compare.

4. Compare specific story metrics

Once you locate the same story in both sites, let's compare the data. Look at one of the blue boxes in MFN, such as Pageviews, and switch to the GA4 tab to look for "Views" in the story's data. These numbers should be the same or very similar.

FYI: The core metrics we should review include: (ex. MFN name = GA4 name):

      1. Pageviews = Views

      2. Average Reading Minutes = Average Engagement Time

      3. Visits = Sessions

  1. This is how it should look like:

  3. Continue through the four blue boxes to verify the data is correct. Repeat steps 3&4 for a few stories to verify the data is correct.
  4. Checking Social Referrals in GA4:

5. Give us feedback

Take notes and send us what you find (any discrepancies or bugs) to support@metricsfornews.com.
